The Fate of the GOP?

Dear Fellow Americans,
If you are very upset about last night's results and claiming you want to leave the country, Canada is not a real option for you. Your taxes will be higher, the gun laws will be stricter, and gasp, they have same sex marriage and accesible contraception! If you are looking for a place with little government involvement, consider Somalia. Obama's policies aren't so much more "socialist" than Eisenhower's.

I identified more closely with the GOP in the 80s and early 90s; I have some suggestions for the Republican Party as it has become so polarized. Let go of non-issue issues. Twenty five years ago, there were interesting discussions about how we could get things done, with or without government involvement. We could compromise and achieve, and we didn't have platforms consisting of contraception, gay marriage, and putting up a wall along the southern border states. I hate voting because of these issues, not because they are insignificant to me, but because they are still issues. This nation has a growing Asian and Latin American population. California is the greatest example of the changing demographics. This nation is also half-female. Females attend college and graduate/professional degree programs at greater percentages than males. When we want our pelvic exams to be affordable, we aren't asking out for a handout. When we are encouraging our children to speak a different language at home, we aren't being unpatriotic. We are just like you, wanting to be the best we can be by not having to miss work because we developed a preventable condition or by teaching our children multiple languages to appreciate multiple cultures, but perhaps in a different way.
Thanks,
TK

P.S.  Here is a very nice non-partisan perspective.
