Contact The White House

I blogged this earlier on my personal blog, and I thought some of you would be interested in doing the same thing either by calling yourself or passing on this message. For the background on 1st Lt. Daniel Choi, you can watch the interview from The Rachel Maddow Show here.

We all know that not much useful comes across Facebook; however, I did discover a few good tidbits last week.

First, I discovered that Anthony Woods, a fellow West Point grad, is running for Congress in California. He is doing something that I commonly don't agree with, which is running for Congress as your first elected office when you are still rather young. However, he is a West Point grad with 2 tours in Iraq who is from the Sacramento area and also graduated from the Harvard Kennedy school; so I wish him the best of luck. Apparently, he also got separated from the military for violating 'Don't ask, Don't Tell.'

After digging for information about Anthony for a bit, I found the home page of 'Knights Out,' which is a group of 'LGBT' West Point grads. One of my friends from the class of '01 is on there. I signed up as an ally. There is also a class of 2003 grad who is an Arabic linguist, Infantry officer, and apparently a very good student at West Point.

They are urging people to call the White House switchboard today to specifically tell the President not to discharge Daniel Choi. Here's the sample script on the web site:

Call the White House at 202-456-1111 or send them an email from their website.

Sample Script:
I'm calling to tell the president not to fire Lieutenant Dan Choi - and to keep his promise to end "Don't Ask, Don't Tell." I am a [something about you and your personal connection to this issue]. We need all the combat officers, and Arabic linguists, and for that matter, every capable servicemember we can get - to keep our military strong. No more studies; we need President Obama to tell Congress to repeal the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" law NOW.
