Olympic Peninsula Vacation

We just got back from our six-day vacation in the Olympic Peninsula. It was an extremely strenuous trip, but we feel rejuvenated. For the first four days, we were in the back country of the Olympic National Forest. We hiked about 40 miles total passing through the Hoh Rain Forest and then gaining elevation on our way to Glacier Meadows. At the end of Glacier Meadows, we hiked to Blue Glacier which is north of Mount Olympus. This is the glorious panoramic view.

Besides the view from the top, the highlights included seeing many nursing trees, critters in their natural habitat (birds, foxes, goats, grouse, and snakes), and gorgeous wildflowers. It was extremely peaceful to fall asleep two nights listening to the Hoh River and to wake up to birds chirping.

After the intense part of our vacation, we spent two days in Port Angeles. The small town isn't very exciting, and we were thrilled to do low key activities such as watching The Hangover, attending a fantastic recital at The Olympic Music Festival, and watching the 4th of July parade and fireworks. The relaxation was a necessity to prepare us for the stressful drive back to Seattle (we decided to not take the ferry as the wait was more than two hours in Kingston and more than one hour in Bainbridge).
